Item upgrade, commonly called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts a stat linearly.

Upgrade components

Most upgrade components slotted into items cannot be repaired or replaced without removing the gear in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. However, if you have a non-useful rune or glyph that has not yet been incorporated into your equipment, you can transfer it to another piece of equipment by using the Upgrade Glyphs context menu within the Glyphs panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.

If you are looking to remove a glyph from an item you must salvage it with the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool.
