Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses such as PvE damage and crit chance.

Components

Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them; the item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be inserted. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component that is used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and Enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an Best item upgrade's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment that require less Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

Leveling

The upgrade system for items lets players increase the performance of certain items by placing upgraded components inside them. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has a level which determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385 ilvl. Each level of an item requires different components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes are available in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or purchased from some NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe completed yields a certain number of Technology points. These points can be used to upgrading an item. Once enough points are earned you will be able to claim your upgrade and receive its additional bonuses.

When the player upgrade a piece of equipment the original item will be replaced by a new item level upgrade. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own bonus. This could be a drawback, as it can cause the item to become more expensive if you do not need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can reroll item upgrades. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This is useful for certain items, but it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can waste lots of resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled several times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. Additionally the item will lose any bonuses it gained such as crit chance and attack damage, as well as any additional effects associated with that effect (for instance, an increase in heal over time or the speed of reloading). However, the player may still continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest.
