World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's base stats increases as it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to the number of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

It is also used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at a lower level). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

Using the item level can help players evaluate the power of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and the amount of damage it's capable of causing. The level of an item can be used to compare items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.

The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a variety of theories on the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated by formulas that determine the value of an item upgrades's stats really are. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

This is not the only thing that affects the value of an item. The location of where the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance it can increase the item's haste or crit score. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Item stats are a big element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game utilizes them in many ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications which are then enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at more expensive costs.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all sizes and shapes. The affixes could be used to give the item additional damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing cooldowns) or make the item unique by giving a special name to the item.

Currently, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling.

In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it's an exclusive item or a God roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that can be modified by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. Similar to base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves and is therefore more beneficial in the early game than in later ones, as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading that increase with each item level. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with the default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item upgrade, up to 140.

Additionally there are certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be found in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be expensive and not all upgrades will succeed. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it fails.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Every item has a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5%.

The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This can obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
