WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the Item Level Upgrade used to upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs of item level upgrade upgraders in a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. After an item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade item coupon as well as the possibility of getting the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades must be acquired through various methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was modified a bit, and some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to that level will be less expensive, even if they are part of another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have several options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests based on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated, but the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. For instance, when an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. For instance it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best equipment you have and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
