How to Replace an audi key replacement cost uk G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician teaches you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It is a little tricky to test as there are several pins on the connector, and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. Check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched in gazoline, the fourth one was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when I start the engine without sparks, the ones that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is 0.
I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much all other possibilities out. But i'm worried that I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure the resistance between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions about timing of the fuel injector, for example. To accomplish this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which could cause engine shut down.
A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and requires replacement audi key. The good news is that they are very affordable and easy to find, especially in the case of a Bosch sensor, which is what ours are. Alternately, the GM version of this component is also a good choice.
