Lolita's Personality

Despite their adoring nature however, these birds can be loud and can be a nuisance to those who live near. They can be heard making ear-shattering calls and screech-calls, which can be disruptive in apartments and condos or in close proximity to children who might be startled by their roar.

Another intriguing characteristic of this particular species is that it is monomorphic, meaning males and females are hard to differentiate. Because of this, DNA testing is the only reliable method to determine sex. Once the sex of the birds is known and breeding can begin, breeding can commence.

Lolita's Care

The plan included a sanctuary pen on the west coast of Washington where she could spend the remaining days, receive human care, and be monitored by scientists. The sanctuary pen was expected to be hundreds of time larger than her Miami home and was surrounded by ocean, but not concrete tanks.

Lolita's Diet
