3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeler is perfect for rough terrain, offering the most comfortable ride for your child. They are also easier to maneuver and push than a four-wheeler, especially if they have fabric sling seats or seat units that are placed perfectly in the frame, delivering the best ergonomics and weight distribution.

Stability

Three-wheeled vehicles are very stable, making them a great option for off-road walks (especially when equipped with a seat unit that is all-terrain or off-road). They usually have large front wheels that can deal well with bumps and kerbs as well as rough terrain. Some have a lockable wheels on the front for additional stability while driving on uneven terrain.

The best 3-wheeled pushchairs are designed with perfect geometry to ensure they remain steady in any weather. They should be able to turn on a dime and be able to be controlled with one hand. They also come with the ability to rotate 360o on the front wheel which is ideal to navigate difficult terrain.

Find models with pneumatic tyres. They are made to handle nonpaved tracks, and should be able to handle mud, gravel, rocks and more. A lot of all-terrain buggies have a swivelling wheel on the front that can be locked to provide added stability when tackling very rough terrain.

A three-wheeled stroller is a great option for those who run or love to speed up the hill. This is particularly true if you are planning to connect a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent model. It features an incline-reclining seat that is flat, with 5-point harness and plenty of storage space to store all your equipment (plus the ability to extend 50+ of the sun hood). It's lightweight, compact and suitable for babies and can be used in conjunction with the use of a car seat or carrycot. It also allows for some light jogging but isn't intended for serious joggers.

Weight

If you're looking for a vehicle that will take on tricky terrain then you want one with large wheels. These will cope well over grass, cobbles and dirt tracks, while providing an enjoyable ride for all passengers. They're also good for jogging as they're equipped with suspension and are easy to get up and down kerbs. However, the downside is that they are quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the best 3 wheel buggy to use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheel buggy is very maneuverable because it has 16 rear wheels as well as a lockable front wheel. It has air tyres, which do need occasional pumping, and it can carry children until the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath says that her toddler loved the shape of the seat, and she found steering it easy even with her 3-year-old on board.

The Baby Jogger Versa GT is another great option. It has an adjustable handlebar, a top-quality hood that offers 50+ UV protection and a high quality hood. It's also easy to get up and down kerbs and can fit into Small 3 Wheel stroller car boot. It can also be used as a pram with an infant car seat for newborns and toddlers.

Fabric slings are positioned inside the frame, not on top like modular seats. This design has a lower centre of gravity that is at the ideal height, making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you can never overestimate how often you'll do this as a new parent!)

Seating

The capacity for seating of 3 wheelers is impressive and there are many different options to choose from. The included carrycot plus is ideal for a baby (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfortable and cosy lie-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy). Older babies and toddlers will appreciate the large and comfortable seat unit that has adjustable ventilation. The seats are not able to recline completely, but can be lowered down to the lowest setting. This should still allow your child to have plenty of space and headroom.

A sling made of fabric is also available. It is advantageous in that it is positioned inside the frame, rather than on top as a modular seat. This creates a lower center of gravity, with a perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push, especially over bumpy terrain or curbs. MFM reviewer Kath really liked the way that this style of seat dealt with these obstacles.

This type of buggy has an enormous basket, along with other features that are useful like an extendable hood with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal, and a few innovative lights for visibility which can be put in front of occupants for improved safety on difficult terrain.

If you're looking for a buggy that can grow with your family it's the sport(tm), a world-first, can accommodate a newborn and then be adapted to accommodate two or three children as they grow. All in one footprint.

Storage

The 3 wheel running buggy-wheeled frame makes a buggy more stable and sturdy to push one-handed, and it's also great for handling terrain that is difficult to navigate. However, it also means that the basket won't hold as much as a 4-wheeler buggy.

A high-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres with a padded grip for added comfort, and a superb suspension. It should be able to accept a carrycot or car seat, which means you can use it from the time of birth.

MFM's reviewers found that the 3-wheeler frame didn't fit through their home's doors or car boot. If you're worried about space, make sure to verify the dimensions of the buggy when it is folded before buying.

Look for a 3 wheel stroller travel system-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. seats as your family grows. These are the best of both worlds and can help you to save money in the future. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most popular. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggy, and later transformed into twin buggies after your baby begins walking.

Tyres

These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more enjoyable. They are typically included on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport, which MFM reviewer Kath said provided "an amazing ride for her toddler". She also noted that the grippy tires of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easier for her to negotiate the kerbs and other obstacles.

These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain their inflation and must be filled regularly. They are also more susceptible to punctures than foam tyres so you'll need to make sure that you have repair kits along with a spare inner tube and pump handy when you're out and about in your buggy.

You can recognise PU tyres by their matte appearance and soft, smooth feel. They also glide well on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

It's usually possible to identify the distinction between air-filled and PU tire by running your fingers over each one. If it feels hard, then it's made of rubber, if it slides then it's a PU. You can also confirm that your buggy has PU tyres simply by sliding the tyres over a clean, flat surface They'll be able to roll easily and should fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. This can make your buggy less stable since the foam loses its springy feel. These tyres are also noisy because they generate a lot noise when you turn and navigate around town.
