How to replace audi key fob an audi tt key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

This sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will throw an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating chain stretch or a jumped link on the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are different pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should read about 1000 ohms. Look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had massive power loss like the engine is out of gas or injectors aren't firing at all. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the 4th one was dry. When I start the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that I may have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions about timing of the fuel injectors, etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these goes badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

A failing G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and requires replacement. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially when they're a Bosch sensor like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this component is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the cause of many problems in your car. It's an essential component of your audi q7 key's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends signals via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost and then transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer. You can also check continuity between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between those two pins. This part is common across the audi tt key replacement 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du So, you may find them in wrecking yards.
