For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value particularly if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it will cost you more and make more noise.

It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection however this was not completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto vacuum and mop-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also gives access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
