Upgrades will give you a boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of the item by +3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless it has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrading that is used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item level upgrade will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other items. Players can purchase them through NPCs who sell upgrades to item Level upgrade owners for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with an button, which displays an item upgrader mod's preview at the next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current level of the item and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item level will be less expensive, even if they are part of an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and that each rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, however it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrader gear you have available, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that fill multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
