WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost in specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of the item by +3. A random additional substat is also added to every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current item level of the item level Upgrade being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade items can be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting the latest recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades are acquired via various methods, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level, will cost less. This applies even if the items are from another set of equipment.

The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item upgrader mod level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to gear with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. For instance, once an item level upgrade reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with high-quality gear.
