However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency.
