Some models also self-empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin in the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They are equipped with motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

Still, it's very good robot vacuum to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This top-performing combination vacuum and mop utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum cleaner reviews uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum and mop vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums that we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
