Top Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

Robots aren't quite as adept in removing debris like screws made of metal or pieces of pasta. However, they are great at cleaning pet hair, dust and food particles. The most effective models come with smart navigation technology and object avoidance features which allow them to navigate around cords, toys and other household obstacles.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is a great robot automated vacuum cleaner with a number of innovative features that make it more easy to maintain than many competing models. The automatic vacuum cleaner bin emptying feature is one of the most impressive features we've encountered in a robotic vacuum cleaners vacuum. It works well on carpets and hard floors. The app guides you through the entire process. It is also easy to use and set up. Another impressive feature is its ability to return to where it was when we tested it. It did this for 77 mins on one cleaning, before running out of battery.

The i3+ EVO unlike the other robot vacuums we tested has a self cleaning vacuum cleaner emptying bin that automatically disposes of debris into an external dirt compartment on its charging base once it's full. This makes it easier to maintain the unit and helps keep the i3+ EVO from overfilling, however it still requires manually emptied after every cleaning session. The i3+ EVO dust bin can hold 2.4L which is enough to last four to five cleaning sessions.

Like the i7model, this model uses state-of-the-art floor sensors to create maps and navigate in neat rows. However the i3+ EVO only stores a single map while the i7 is able to store multiple maps. The i7's map is used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones but not for the i3+ EVO.

While the i3+ EVO is superior in picking up dirt and debris from surfaces than the other robovacs that we tested but it's not the best for cleaning corners and edges. It's also a bit less gentle on furniture, despite being fairly quiet. It pulled chairs away from walls, and made some collisions with the sides of our bed, and also was stuck to cords and toys during testing.

2. Black & Decker Pro Q5

If you're looking to increase your collection of robot vacuums, or are just starting out with the Q5 Pro is a great choice. It offers an elegant design, powerful navigation, and effective automation at a reasonable cost. This robot is great at cleaning floors that are bare, and its avoidance tech helps it to steer clear of furniture legs or other obstacles. It also performs well on carpets, and earns a high score for our tests of navigation. The only issue is that it's more noisy than other models and doesn't do as well in our owner-satisfaction and predicted reliability tests.

You can manage the Q5 Pro via the app and also use voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

This is the first robot we've seen that incorporates 3D mapping. This along with other advances, helped it perform exceptionally well in our vacuuming tests and mopping tests. It allows you to plan cleaning schedules, create no-go zones, and view the battery's condition, among other things. The app is easy to use, though it doesn't support Apple HomeKit and that feature is expected to be available in 2025. Apple changed its footnote on its website in the beginning of November to reflect the fact that the feature was delayed until 2025. A few other robots aren't compatible with HomeKit however, a lot of them are compatible with Siri Shortcuts.
