It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuum reviews vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaner reviews that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic automatic vacuum and mop/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuums that mop we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot cleaner with mop vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to how dirty they tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map.
