Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapons. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item upgrade that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade items process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated requires as many as 20 crests depending on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the highest-quality gear you can locate and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
