World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. This value is the sum of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and what type of upgrade you choose to do. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced to allow the Best item upgrade to be upgraded.
The level of an item upgrader kit is a commonly used measure of power, and can be found on all item tooltips. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet.
Using the item level can help players evaluate the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a useful gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it's able to deal. Comparing items in a vendor's stock is possible using the item's level.
On PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its value. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are many theories about the method by which the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level.
This isn't the only factor that affects the level of an item. The location of where the item was dropped may change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat modifications of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.
Upgrades to an item may boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. A white or grey item for instance, can only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.
Another method to alter the stats of an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage, special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by naming them.
All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount in gold and items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item by specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat in the same range, unless it's a unique item, or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in the early game, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be increased by using anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned with the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) for a further +40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.
Moreover some items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased from the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are costly and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limits to the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%..
The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Every item has an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This may obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item upgrader (posteezy.com) CORE client config.
