How to Replace an replacement audi key cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge over the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.
If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
Testing can be a bit difficult since there are two connector pins and they have different functions but the most effective way to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had an abrupt drop in power like the engine is out of gas or audi keyless Go (cameradb.review) the injectors are not firing any more. I took out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was unclean. I placed a tissue over each injector hole, and when I start the engine with no sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump out. The 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is unplugged and runs fine when it is connected, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not certain what to do, as i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. It is easy to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector end facing up). They should be infinite ohms.
