The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best automatic vacuum and mop robot vacuum for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuums with mop vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would think from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro).
