Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Infusions and enrichments are a particular type of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it is applied to (for example, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions of the item using the smallest amount of upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level using normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the attack or defence attributes of an armored weapon or. These upgrades are available to be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanic.
