iRobot recommends clearing areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes putting away any clutter or toys it might encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clean to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically empties its trash into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning the area where it started. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes about three hours to fully recharge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot with voice or via the app.

In our tests the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our top choice, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin that removes major maintenance sources and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot on how to begin or stop cleaning sessions as well as move around the room and to vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. Once connected, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car that is amidst a sea of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in a majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces fade-free power for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then releases fresh air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adjusted to suit the task. It swiftly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back.

The model also comes with docks that charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments as well as a Wand clip. This is a major improvement over earlier Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its short run time. The claims of its marketing that it can last up to 60 minutes of run time are not true, as CR's testing shows. It also feels better-built and has a more powerful motor, and works better on bare floors and low-pile carpet, while providing a greater variety of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's no surprise, then, that they are one of the top makers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app gives you plenty of options to customize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and much more. The app is easy to navigate and use as are other Samsung devices.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). It did not do well in avoiding taller items like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we've tested, which might be a deal-breaker for some buyers.

The app lets you access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's cleaning zone. This feature allows you to check in on your children or pets when you are away. The filter and the dust bin can be washed for quick, easy cleanup.
