The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and an automatic vacuum cleaner bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum reviews that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they are.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Additionally a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that vacuum and mop that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app also grants access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
