Find the battery's hatch and turn it open using a flathead, coin, or any other similar tool. Then, carefully remove the battery from its socket by lifting up on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Be sure to use rubber gloves to avoid damaging the contacts or the clips.

Place the new battery into the socket after the previous one is removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards and that it's seated within all clips. Slide the cover down toward the key-ring until it is loose and slides off. Then, remove the cover to reveal the hidden key blade. You can use it to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side if you have lost or damaged the key fob.

After you have opened the fob, you can locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Replace the battery and snap the fob.

Note: Older Volvos use a different battery, the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of one millimeter lower than a CR2032 and you'll have be extremely cautious when replacing your battery.
