Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and works when you're at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuums best in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device, which can be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a model with a the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, but it's more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've test. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
